Chatw FAQ — Free Chat, No Registration
What Chatw is, whether you need an account, how private messages work, and how voice check and live camera work.
What is Chatw?
Chatw.org is a free, adults-only public text chat. You pick a display name and a gender tag, then you talk. Pictures, GIFs, videos, group chats, and private messages are available. You can also send voice messages or do voice calls or group calls.
Do I need to register?
No. There is no email or phone number. An account is optional if you want the same reserved name on another device.
Is it 18+?
Yes. You must confirm you are 18 or older before you enter the room. It is not for children.
Is it free?
Yes. The rooms, private messages, group chats, voice notes and voice calls cost nothing. There are no ads on the site right now.
A few optional extras can be bought, such as a name colour or bigger uploads. You never need them to chat.
How many rooms are there?
Four. The NSFW room is the main adult room. The SFW room keeps things clean. The Suggestions room is for ideas about the site. The Voice room is for live talk, and it has its own text chat. You pick one when you join, and you can switch at any time with the buttons above the chat.
Can I send a private message?
Yes. Click a name and write them. They can set messages to by-request so strangers get one line, then wait.
Can I make a group chat?
Yes. Open Messages and press New group. A group holds up to 300 people. Keep it private for the people you add, or make it public so others can find it in Find groups, with a password if you want one.
What can I send?
Text up to 2,000 characters, emoji, GIFs, pictures and videos. You can attach up to 4 files to one message, and each picture or video can be up to 50 MB.
From the message box you can also record a voice note of up to one minute or a camera clip of up to 30 seconds.
What is a voice check?
Optional, and only for the Female and Trans woman tags. You read a random phrase into the mic. A badge shows you did it live. Anyone can ask someone in a private message to do the same, once.
What do the badges mean?
Voice verified means the person read a random phrase out loud, live. The badge lasts 60 days, then the check must be done again.
A Verified photo badge means staff compared the picture with a live camera photo of the person making a hand gesture. The face is not required. HUMAN means staff checked that the person is real and not a bot. Taken live means a photo came straight from a phone's camera inside the chat.
Can I call or go live?
Yes. Private chats and group chats have voice calls. In the main room you can send a voice note, a short camera clip, or go live so everyone in the room can hear or see you.
How long are messages kept?
Each room keeps its last 250 messages. Each private chat and group chat keeps its last 200 messages, and a chat with no new message for 30 days is deleted with its pictures.
You can delete your own messages at any time, and you can delete a whole private chat for both people.
How do I block or report someone?
Open their name and choose Block. They disappear for you, in the rooms and in private. To report, use Report on the message. The report goes to staff with the message attached, and staff can mute or ban the sender.
Can staff read my private messages?
Staff do not browse private chats. When an account is reported, or looks like a spam bot, staff can open that account's recent private and group chats to decide what to do. Each time this happens it is written to the moderation log.
Is there an app?
On Android you can install the Chatw app from the Chatw app page. It is not on Google Play. On iPhone, open chatw.org in Safari and use Add to Home Screen to get an icon.
What if I clear my browser data?
Your chat identity lives in your browser, so clearing it makes you a new person with a new name. An identity nobody uses is deleted 45 days after the last visit. To keep your name, make an optional account with a username and password.
Is Chatw the same as chatiw.com?
No. Chatw at chatw.org is a separate site and is not affiliated with chatiw.com. It was called Chatiw App, at chatiw.app, until November 2026.
